I don't know how to structure this, so I'll just write.

Your phone has everything it needs to make a phone call, send an SMS, get an internet connection without a SIM card. It is uniquely identifiable, independent of the presence or absence of a SIM card or multiple SIM cards. Each and every mobile phone in the world has a unique IMEI number that gets broadcast to cell towers.

When a phone is first seen, its IMEI gets logged along with date, time, location and possible SIM card ID. This is one of the things that led to a few Russian FSB agents getting caught. Their phone was first turned on at the FSB headquarters and the mobile operator could see their phone and the IMEI logs.

Your phone is constantly pinging cell towers and through signal strength/latency, towers in range your phone will be positioned and that position can and will be logged. Through google location service all your movements are tracked. If you have an android phone or google apps on your phone then check out this www.google(.)com/maps/timeline and see where you've been at these past couple of years. Your grow op, a drug den, a drop location?

Google logs everything, Facebook logs everything. Your mobile service provider will log the contents and your location of every SMS you send and the metadata and location of every call you make. Your location data is logged at least for a while but at the request of LE you phone will be used to log your every movement and your movement will be known in real time.

Your phone is an insecure piece of shit and a counter surveillance nightmare. If it is in airplane mode, is it really. Can its microphone be turned on (its always on, "ok google") and be made to broadcast sound. Front camera video? It is a surveillance device at the fingertips of LE and you are voluntarily carrying it with you at the most critical moments.

1. Do not have your personal phone be your drug phone.

2. Buy a burner phone. It should be a brand new phone, bought with cash away from your home, the further away the better. The less cameras the better. Do not bring your phone for the phone buying trip. No not visit that store on other occasions. For multiple burners you should switch shops.

Why not used? IMEI. That is tied to someone and that someone sold it to a pawn shop or the phone was turned on in the pawn shop. This can tie the phone to you.

3. If you don't need a SIM and can get by on wifi then don't get a sim.

4. If you need a SIM then buy it with cash, no cameras. Some countries require registration for prepaid card purchases. Do not bring your phone when you buy SIM.

5. Activate SIM somewhere where you can not be tied to it. SIM activations are logged. Do not bring your phone to where you first turn on burner phone and activate SIM. Do it in the toilet of a club, there are 20 dealers and hundreds of users there.
Turn on, turn off.

6. Do not send SMS messages. Do not make phone calls. Even if contents are innocuous, metadata builds networks of contacts and metadata itself can be incriminating. DO NOT!

Peer-to-peer end-to-end encrypted messaging apps are preferable. End to end encrypted centralized apps will still leak info about who talks to whom and how often, far into the future.

7. No facebook or google apps on the phone. Bluetooth off. Location off. Wifi off. Airplane mode when data not needed. Phone off when not needed.

8. NEVER have phone on in home, around home or when you have your regular phone on you or when the phone can be tied to you through cameras.

9. Only have phone on when needed.

10. SIM swap is insufficient - IMEI. You need to swap phone and sim regularly or after every bad deed. This way your phone isn't tying crimes together and if something is found out after and phone is tied to it too, nobody will be waiting when you next use the phone. You won't be using it.

11. Destroy phone and SIM, with fire.

12. Don't get caught with a bad phone/SIM in your home. Keep it somewhere else.

13. Do not bring you personal phone with you when going to places.

Where are you now myaccount.google(.)com/intro/find-your-phone?hl=en-US
Where have you been www.google(.)com/maps/timeline

14. Your phone is insecure. Do not trust it.

15. Android can be emulated in a sandboxed environment, do not use a phone.

15. Tails or jails.
